How to Become a Travel Agent in Every State

If you want to become a top-producing travel agent, you've come to the right place. LuxRally Travel is home to some of the world's highest-earning agents. The best part? They'll take you under their wing and show you the ropes, no experience is required.

Did you know LuxRally Travel offers free online travel agent training?

This occupation requires no college degree or background. No matter which state you're in, there are five things you need to do before becoming a travel agent.

1. Set Your Goals

Before you commit to anything, you need to know what you want to achieve. Many travel agents are happy getting free or discounted group trips to hotels, making $30,000-$50,000 a year. If this is your goal, then a fast-paced outfit like ours is not for you. LuxRally travel culture is very much a hustler culture emphasizing loyalty to clients, not free FAM trips. If you want to make six, or even seven figures, choose a host agency and mentor with solid priorities.

2. Join a Host Agency

Once you know your goals, join a host agency. For example, LuxRally Travel is a host travel agency; if you join our team, we make sure you are fully licensed, insured, and have the credentials you need to be legitimate, such as an IATA. Joining a host agency will give you access to all of the tools you need to take this profession seriously.

3. Master the Tools

Master the tools available to you once you become an agent. From booking tools to benefits programs, you can access resources that will keep your clients returning for more. All of this is covered in our free online travel agent training. Unfortunately, many host agencies do not offer practical training, leaving agents frustrated and often unable to efficiently use resources. Many programs, such as GDS, have different codes and commands defined by the host agency. If the host agency does not offer full documentation, then the agent will be unable to even google "how to do xyz". Trust us, we created our own travel agent training program for a reason.

4. Know Your Niche

Our travel agency began by curating trips for exotic car owners. From there, we completely redefined what a luxury travel agency looks like. Our clients want to text us their needs and know we will quickly take care of their trip from A to Z. Each LuxRally agent discovers and defines their niche in our travel agent course. Whether you join our team, or another host agency, understanding your client's desires is critical to making money.

5. Find Your Travel Community

Whether it's a host agency forum, Facebook group, or WhatsApp chat, find a community with like-minded people to grow with. You are likely not an expert in all parts of the world or all travel tools, and having a community to help you through your first trip is invaluable. Our team is a tight-knit community; we are always there to support one another. The LuxRally team has come together to foster a trusting and constructive culture. Our more experienced agents are always a message away when a new agent needs help. We have each other's back and are proud of our quickly growing group.

We hope you learned something from this article. If you think LuxRally Travel is a good fit and want to join our team, please apply for our free travel agent training program.
