Notably, the Icon of the Seas is more than 6% larger and 10 feet longer than Wonder of the Seas. The vessel can accommodate up to 7,600 passengers at maximum occupancy (nearly 10,000 including the crew), making it a formidable addition to the cruising world. The ship's maiden voyage is scheduled for January 27, 2024, with three itinerary options available until April 2025.

The upcoming cruise ship, Icon, will pioneer the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a power source, marking the first of three ships for the cruise line to adopt this eco-friendly technology. Along with LNG, the vessel will also showcase other sustainable features, including shore power connectivity, that will enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint. The shift towards LNG will ultimately prove more energy-efficient, with substantial reductions in both fuel consumption and emissions. Royal Caribbean International's President and CEO Michael Bayley highlights Icon's efficiency, stating that "it is 35% more fuel energy efficient than regular fuel, and the ship itself, because of the design, is about 30% more efficient." Additionally, Icon of the Seas will employ a shore power connection that eliminates emissions while docked
