We will provide your licensing, walk you through paperwork, provide in-depth training and mentorship, and it's all free to you. We don't make money until you do, and our commission split starts at a competitive 80%/20% (you keep 80%). Joining a Host Agency Will Simplify the Process When you join a host agency, a lot of the licensing and regulatory headaches disappear. Your host agency will provide an IATA number (which allows you to make commissionable bookings), handle your licensing, and (should) let you know if you need to file any paperwork. Your host agency's licensing will cover you unless you accept money directly from clients into your business entity or bank account. Make sure your host travel agency has a seller of travel licenses in key states. Florida, Washington State, Hawaii, and California require seller of travel licenses to sell to their residents. We have all needed licenses to sell travel to residents in the United States and our agents can sell all destinations not listed on the OFAC list . This article assumes you will be joining a host agency versus trying to open your own. There are various benefits to joining a host agency, i.e., access to a consortia, travel agent tools, mentorship, lower start-up costs, and so much more. Check out our guide to selecting the best host agency. We may or may not be the right match (though we probably are). Join Our Host Agency Where is this? La Residencia, a Belmond hotel, Mallorca, Spain Where is this? Casa de Sierra Nevada, a Belmond Hotel, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico Travel Agent Fees Complicate the Process If you want to charge your clients a fee, things become complicated. You will technically need your own Seller of Travel License if collecting fees into your business entity from Florida, California, Hawaii or Washington state residents (some additional states have other regulations regarding these transactions), and that gets expensive fast. Accepting direct payments from clients for travel may require compliance with additional business, tax, and licensing regulations imposed by city, county, and/or state authorities. Be sure to review and adhere to these requirements if payments are processed through your personal or business accounts. Fees don't just complicate your credentials; they also complicate your relationships with clients. This is something we discuss in our free travel agent training. Many travel agencies strongly recommend charging a fee. We do not. Our agents are banned from charging fees but earn more thanks to our efficient tools and comprehensive training. Earn More Don't Accidentally Become a Tour Operator Something else new agents may not consider is tour operator regulations. Being a tour operator requires additional credentials. You can "accidentally" become a tour operator when you try to put together a packaged trip. For example, you may want to put together a wine package for $10,000. You charge people for "tickets" that include hotels, tours, and car services. If you accept this money directly (not through your host agency) and then pay out each supplier, you will need to become a legal tour operator and carry the risk. This is usually a not-so-profitable and high-risk endeavor. There are much easier ways for a travel agent to land large payouts. We discuss this in detail in our travel agent training. Join Our Agency Educational Requirements and Certifications There is no educational requirement to become a travel agent in Nebraska. However, host agencies will typically have required training or steps to access their credentials and IATA. You could probably find a host agency that would give you access to their credentials and IATA in days. However, what happens after that? You need to know how to use booking tools, get clients, close deals, work with hospitality professionals, handle travel agent accounting, etc. We cover all of this in detail during our training, provide comprehensive mentorship, and have a community of thriving agents who are constantly helping each other out. Also, we have the most advanced booking tool for travel agents (FastBook), meaning you only need to learn a few systems to start making bookings. If you have a large opportunity with an ultra-luxury client, David Eisen will step in personally to assist. If you need a better understanding of sales, our VP of Sales, who has run dozens of sales teams, has your back. If you need help with marketing, our CMO and Marketing Director will personally assist. Our team collaborates and pushes each other towards success. None of our agents are on their own if they need additional support. Annual Symposium: Each year, our agency meets in person in Miami for four days of learning and networking with vendors, special guest speakers, and our admin team. Forums: We have extensive forums where agents ask questions and share information. For example, our "IRL Feedback" forum is where our agents post about properties, suppliers, and general experiences. Chats: Our chats are constantly active. We have various categories of chats where agents can collaborate, get immediate support, and share experiences or thoughts. Make New Connections The #1 Booking Portal for Travel Agents Fully Mobile: When David first became a travel agent, before creating our travel agency, he would need to lug around his laptop and log into dozens of suppliers, including GDS (which has a horrific interface). Now, we have FastBook, which pulls hundreds (sometimes thousands) of rates for a single hotel in 30 seconds from anywhere. You can use FastBook on your phone, computer, or even tablet. Control Over Your Commissions: We are the only travel agency that pulls NET rates into our booking portal. Our agents can adjust their commission up or down (but never so high that the client pays more than what they would pay when booking a public rate, we consider this a fee). This allows our agents to close more deals and maximize commissions on wide margin deals while still saving clients hundreds, or thousands of dollars. Automated Admin Tasks: FastBook automatically invoices bookings, organizes unmatched commissions, has email workflows for commission collections (when a hotel is late to pay), and creates client itineraries emails. All of this has been manual or tedious for travel agents until now. Additionally, sending client profiles to hotels along with a booking is as simple as checking a box. Consistent Client Information: Accidentally typing in a client's name, date of birth, or passport wrong can create a huge liability. FastBook easily stores this information and automatically applies it to bookings, reducing the chance of error. Secure Credit Card Storage: Before Luxrally Travel, David Eisen did Cybersecurity for defense contractors. Easily use our secure credit card authorization form to get client payment information into our system. From there, when you select a client during checkout, you can easily select their preferred payment method from a drop-down. No more manually typing in credit card details. Powerful Search: Beyond pulling hundreds of rates per hotel, FastBook lets you search by hotel list. Many of these are shared agency-wide. Want to see which hotels David sends clients to in Rome? Use his hotel list for your search. Need a family-friendly, all-inclusive resort in the Riviera Maya? We have lists for that. You can also build custom lists and choose to share them with other agents or keep them private. Using a hotel list to search saves time and easily lets you see which hotels are within reach for the client's budget. Client and Booking Reminders: Easily set reminders in our system for final payment dates, last chance to cancel dates, passport renewal dates, and custom reminders for clients and bookings. You'll discover even more functions in The Systems course. We are always adding more based on our agent feedback. Since we've built this from the ground up in-house, we can add new features within days. Get the Advantage Where is this? Aman Venice, Italy. Where is this? Amanzoe, Porto Heli, Greece. Earn the Max Our agents earn more due to our modern practices; we don't charge fees (which reduces friction), our tech saves agents hours for each booking, we do not limit the number of suppliers our agents can work with (in fact, we are always adding new suppliers), our agents can adjust commissions in FastBook, our agents can use our in-house concierge team for low-rev or non-rev items (i.e., tours, car transfers, restaurant reservations, etc.), we teach our agents practical marketing strategies to get ultra-high-net-worth clients, and our agents are trained to book everything, meaning they never miss an opportunity to earn. If someone says to charge a fee or find a niche, see how much they earn per year. They don't understand the bountiful opportunities in this multi-billion dollar industry if it's not seven figures. If you're thinking, "Well, I don't know any ultra-high-net-worth travelers?" Think again. The average American is two to four degrees away from a billionaire. Our marketing course will give you insights on moving through your network to land these individuals as ultra-profitable clients. A single billionaire client can earn you six figures per year in commission. If you are willing to dedicate yourself to excellence, you'll eventually get an incredible book of business. Our commission splits start at 80%/20% (you keep 80%) and then moves up to 90%/10% after your first $100,000 in earned commissions each year. Some host agencies advertise 100% commission splits. Agents often think the agency is just making money on the subscription fees from agents. This is incorrect. Host agencies keep overrides of 1-3% in these cases. We know because we are a host agency and get these overrides. Suppliers are shocked to hear we are passing these to our agents. For example, the agent at a 100% commission agency thinks the commission is 10% when it's actually 13% (if you consider the override). We pass along our margins to agents to use as they see fit. I.e., Norwegian Cruise Lines gives us an override. We pass this along to our agents to use for onboard credit to close deals versus pocketing the money and advertising 100% comms. At the end of the day 100% commission splits are actually 70%/30%, sometimes 60%/40% after factoring in the override. Maximize Your Income No Experience Required Everyone knows someone who travels. No experience is required to become a LuxRally Travel agent. Our course will teach you everything you need to know to get started and you'll have an incredible team to support your journey. We accept existing agents (those who are looking to switch host agencies) and new agents (people who have never been a travel agent before). Of course, it will take time and hard work to master this industry. We seek motivated people wanting to change their lives and "escape the matrix." People are traveling all around you; we want you if you see that as an opportunity. Your network can make or break you. If you do not know many people who travel, get ready to go out and meet new people. Otherwise, you will have a hard time hitting our sales minimums. We read every application; this is our first impression of you. If you do not pay attention to the fine print (a massive part of being a travel agent) and put thought into your answer to, "Why would you thrive at our agency?", expect to be rejected. Take Your Shot Where is this? Belmond La Samanna, St. Martin. Where is this? Raffles, Doha, Qatar. Expectations of Our Agents You are Starting Your Own Business: This is a 1099 independent contractor position. You will need to decide whether you want to create a business entity (i.e., an LLC) and handle your taxes and other business-related tasks. You must complete a W9 and set up your payment information with us so we can disburse your commissions without delay (we cover this in Orientation). Independent Agent Affidavit/Statement of Exemption : You must file a Statement of Exemption each year to remain active with our agency. This is a form and fee of $51.50 paid directly to the State of Florida. We provide step-by-step instructions on how to do this during Orientation. Our host agency's credentials fully cover you upon completing the exemption statement. Reliable Connection: You need a reliable phone, laptop, and internet connection. After graduating, you will likely need an international cell phone plan (usually $15 per month). Availability to Your Clients: When someone calls, you need to answer or get back to them as soon as possible. Otherwise, their customer service experience is worse than that of a call center. Sure, they'll need to wait on hold, but eventually, someone will answer. If your client calls us and has an emergency, we will try to get ahold of you. If we need to service your client, you will be billed $250 per hour in 15-minute increments. We have never had to charge an agent this fee. Don't be the first. If you know you will be unavailable while a client is actively traveling, collaborate with another agent or our in-house concierge to cover for you. Sales Minimums: The year is divided into four standard quarters: Q1: January 1 - March 31 Q2: April 1 - June 30 Q3: July 1 - September 30 Q4: October 1 - December 31 New agents are required to generate $2,500 in revenue during their first full quarter after graduation (Around $250 in commission). Starting in the second full quarter, the requirement increases to $5,000 in revenue per quarter (around $500 in commission), aligning with the standard for all agents. Agents must achieve $50,000 in revenue annually, starting from April 1, 2025. Join Us How it Works 1. Are you thinking about becoming a travel agent in Georgia? We have you covered. We will provide your licensing, walk you through paperwork, provide in-depth training and mentorship, and it's all free to you. We don't make money until you do, and our commission split starts at a competitive 80%/20% (you keep 80%). Become a Travel Agent in Georgia Join Our Agency Where is this? The Lodge at Sea Island, St Simons Island, Georgia Take our free travel agent training. Reids Palace, a Belmond hotel, Madeira, Portugal Where is this?
