- Traveling Through Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia is a land of contrasts—a country where ancient Nabataean tombs stand alongside futuristic megacities, where rolling sand dunes stretch into infinity, and where the hum of bustling souks competes with the serenity of untouched Red Sea islands. Long closed off to mainstream tourism, Saudi Arabia is now stepping onto the world stage, unveiling a destination that is equal parts heritage, adventure, and unbridled luxury. Travel Stories | Saudi Arabia Traveling Through Saudi Arabia By Courtney Eisen | Jan 31, 2025 Saudi Arabia is a land of contrasts—a country where ancient Nabataean tombs stand alongside futuristic megacities, where rolling sand dunes stretch into infinity, and where the hum of bustling souks competes with the serenity of untouched Red Sea islands. Long closed off to mainstream tourism, Saudi Arabia is now stepping onto the world stage, unveiling a destination that is equal parts heritage, adventure, and unbridled luxury. From the legendary rock-hewn tombs of Hegra to the high-tech ambition of Neom and The Red Sea Project, traveling through Saudi Arabia is not just a trip—it’s an exploration of a nation redefining itself. And for those who demand the best, our agency ensures a seamless journey, handling every detail from private guides and luxury accommodations to exclusive desert experiences and curated cultural encounters. The Best Time to Experience Saudi Arabia Timing is everything in Saudi Arabia, where the landscape—and the travel experience—shifts dramatically with the seasons. October to March is the sweet spot, when daytime temperatures hover between 68°F – 86°F (20°C – 30°C), making it perfect for exploring desert wonders, historic cities, and Red Sea escapes. April to September brings scorching heat, with temperatures soaring past 104°F (40°C). During these months, travelers retreat into Jeddah’s luxurious waterfront hotels, Riyadh’s world-class shopping malls, and AlUla’s cool, rock-carved interiors. Riyadh: Where Past Meets Future Riyadh is the beating heart of modern Saudi Arabia, a city where glittering skyscrapers rise from the desert floor, yet the echoes of the past still linger in its ancient forts and mud-brick palaces. It is a city of power, finance, and ambition, offering both cutting-edge experiences and deeply rooted traditions. What to See: Kingdom Centre Tower – An icon of the Riyadh skyline, offering sweeping views of the metropolis from its sky bridge. Diriyah – The birthplace of the Saudi state, now a meticulously restored UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with labyrinthine alleys, traditional Najdi architecture, and exclusive restaurants. Al Masmak Fortress – A historic mud-brick fort symbolizing Saudi Arabia’s founding. Edge of the World – A breathtaking desert escarpment where sheer cliffs drop into a never-ending horizon of golden sands. Where to Stay: Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh at Kingdom Centre – A modern oasis of luxury, offering panoramic city views and world-class dining. Mandarin Oriental Al Faisaliah Hotel – Where Arabian elegance meets contemporary sophistication, right in the city’s dynamic core. Jeddah: The Red Sea’s Cosmopolitan Capital Waldorf Astoria Qasr Al Sharq Suite, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia Jeddah is a city that moves to its own rhythm, where luxury meets history on the shores of the Red Sea. As the gateway to Mecca and Medina, it has long been a melting pot of cultures, reflected in its vibrant markets, Ottoman-era buildings, and cutting-edge developments. What to See: Al-Balad (Old Jeddah) – A UNESCO-listed historic district where ancient coral-stone buildings, wooden lattice balconies, and bustling souks transport you to another time. Jeddah Corniche – A stunning waterfront promenade lined with luxury hotels, upscale dining, and striking public art installations. Jeddah Tower – Set to become the tallest building in the world, a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s bold ambitions. Where to Stay: Rosewood Jeddah – A Red Sea-front retreat, blending timeless elegance with modern luxury. Waldorf Astoria Jeddah - Qasr Al Sharq – A palatial hotel where every detail exudes opulence and grandeur. AlUla: A Journey Into the Past Maraya, AlUla, Saudi Arabia There is nowhere else on Earth quite like AlUla. It is a place where towering sandstone cliffs hide ancient tombs, where centuries-old rock art tells the stories of forgotten civilizations, and where the desert landscape feels almost supernatural in its beauty. The undisputed jewel of AlUla is Hegra (Mada’in Salih), Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site and a testament to the Nabataean civilization. Often compared to Petra in Jordan, Hegra is less crowded, more untouched, and equally breathtaking. What to See: Hegra – A city of the dead, where 111 intricately carved tombs stand frozen in time. Maraya Concert Hall – The world’s largest mirrored building, rising like an illusion from the desert sands. Elephant Rock – A colossal sandstone formation shaped by millennia of wind and time. Where to Stay: Banyan Tree AlUla – A luxury desert retreat offering private pool villas and immersive cultural experiences. Chedi Hegra – A boutique property with exclusive access to Hegra’s ancient wonders. The Red Sea & Neom: The Future of Travel Saudi Arabia is not just preserving history—it’s building the future. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Red Sea Project and Neom, two ambitious, ultra-luxury developments designed to redefine global travel. These eco-conscious, high-tech resorts promise: Floating villas perched over crystal-clear waters. Sustainable luxury retreats on untouched islands. Next-generation hospitality experiences blending nature, technology, and exclusivity. The Red Sea’s coastline is already home to some of the best diving and snorkeling in the world, with vibrant coral reefs that rival the Maldives. Soon, this region will be the pinnacle of exclusive, high-end travel. Important Things to Know Before Visiting Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia comes with unique cultural and legal considerations that visitors should be aware of before their trip. Alcohol is Strictly Prohibited – Unlike many other luxury destinations, alcohol is completely banned in Saudi Arabia , including in hotels, restaurants, and even on international flights to and from the country. This applies to both purchasing and consuming alcohol, so travelers should not expect wine pairings with fine dining or après-ski cocktails in the upcoming Neom resorts. However, many luxury hotels and restaurants offer high-end mocktails and specialty non-alcoholic beverages that provide an elegant alternative. Respect for Local Customs & Dress Code – Saudi Arabia follows conservative cultural norms , and visitors should dress modestly in public. While foreign women are no longer required to wear an abaya (the traditional full-length robe), loose-fitting, long clothing that covers shoulders and knees is still recommended , especially in more traditional areas. Men should also avoid wearing shorts in public spaces. In luxury resorts and private areas like the Red Sea Project, dress codes may be more relaxed. Religious Sites: Mecca & Medina Are Exclusive to Muslims – Mecca and Medina are the two holiest cities in Islam and are strictly off-limits to non-Muslim visitors . While travelers can explore Jeddah, Riyadh, and even historical religious sites in other regions, only Muslims are permitted to enter Mecca and the central areas of Medina . This is strictly enforced , with checkpoints ensuring compliance. Travelers should be mindful of this restriction when planning their itinerary. Daily Prayer Times Affect Business Hours – Saudi Arabia observes five daily prayers , and during these times, many businesses, including shops and some restaurants, may temporarily close. This is less of an issue in international hotels and larger malls , but travelers should be aware of prayer schedules when planning activities, especially in more traditional areas. Public Displays of Affection Should Be Avoided – While Saudi Arabia is welcoming to international travelers, public displays of affection, such as holding hands or kissing, are considered inappropriate in public spaces. Couples should be mindful of local customs and avoid overt displays of romance outside private settings. Gender Segregation in Some Areas – While Saudi Arabia has relaxed some of its restrictions in recent years, travelers may still encounter separate seating areas for men and families in some restaurants and cafés . Most luxury hotels and international restaurants do not enforce this, but visitors should be aware of the cultural norms in traditional establishments . Strict Drug Laws – Saudi Arabia has some of the harshest drug laws in the world , with severe penalties for possession, use, or trafficking of illegal substances. Travelers should never bring any prohibited substances into the country and should be cautious when carrying prescription medications. Some medications that are legal in other countries require special permits in Saudi Arabia. Public Holidays and Religious Observances – Saudi Arabia follows the Islamic calendar , which means that public holidays such as Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr can significantly affect business hours and daily life. During Ramadan , for example, eating, drinking, and smoking in public during daylight hours is not permitted , and many restaurants only open after sunset. Travelers visiting during this period should be mindful of local customs and plan accordingly . Visas and Entry Requirements – Most visitors require a visa to enter Saudi Arabia , which can often be obtained online through the Saudi eVisa system . However, entry rules may vary depending on nationality and purpose of travel. Travelers should apply in advance and ensure they meet all requirements before departure . Saudi Arabia is a destination rich in history, culture, and luxury , but understanding these essential guidelines ensures that visitors have a seamless and respectful travel experience . Whether exploring the bustling streets of Riyadh, the ancient wonders of AlUla, or the luxurious coastline of the Red Sea , travelers who respect local customs will find themselves welcomed into one of the most fascinating destinations in the world . Your Journey, Seamlessly Curated Traveling through Saudi Arabia is an extraordinary experience—but one that requires expert planning. Our agency ensures that every element of your journey is flawless, from securing special travel permits for restricted sites to arranging private desert expeditions, fine dining experiences, and luxury accommodations. With our in-house concierge service, you gain an additional layer of VIP treatment, whether it’s a last-minute table at Riyadh’s top restaurants, a private guided tour of AlUla, or a yacht charter on the Red Sea. Saudi Arabia is no longer just a mystical, off-limits land—it is a luxury travel frontier, offering timeless history, cutting-edge innovation, and a level of exclusivity rarely found elsewhere. - Everything you need to know about GDS.
GDS (global distribution system) is one of the most potent travel resources. While powerful, it is also tough to learn and use, so only the most experienced agents try to master it. Let's break it down. Where is this? Amanoi, Vietnam "Our agents can access GDS rates directly in our booking portal." GDS (global distribution system) is one of the most potent travel resources. While powerful, it is also tough to learn and use, so only the most experienced agents try to master it. Let's break it down. Apply to Join Our Team ! Where is this? Monasterio, a Belmond Hotel, Cusco, Peru What does GDS do? GDS takes inventory, rates, and other key data from hotels, airlines, car rental services, etc., and disburses the information globally. For example, travel agents can access their consortium rates through GDS. Four Seasons will load their direct BAR and preferred partner rates into GDS. GDS is a massive hub of information. Travel agents need to access GDS through a GDS system like Amadeus, Sabre, or Travelport. Once in GDS, an agent can view all direct rates from a supplier for a hotel, review critical information like cancellation policies, make bookings, and manage bookings. Sounds pretty awesome, right? Well, it would be if it was easy to use. Imagine a DOS-like interface with procedures and protocols that you can't Google or find anywhere online. If you make a mistake, you could be liable for thousands of dollars. Feel the anxiety building? The power of GDS comes with a ton of liability, and the commands are not intuitive. Most agents need to be thoroughly trained by their host agency before the host will give them access. If you use one wrong command, boom, you can make a $10,000 error. GDS training is so intense that most hosts don't offer it to everyone, only their top agents, and some don't offer it at all. What's worse is that each host agency has its own set-up, so learning it with one agency might not translate properly to the next. Ready to join our team? Our agency might just change your life. We will give you a new skill, new community and new way to earn serious income. Go ahead and apply and know within 48 hours whether you've made the cut. Remember, no travel agent experience required. Apply Now Where is this? Cap Juluca, a Belmond Hotel, Anguilla. What does GDS not do? GDS does not pull in wholesale rates, which are critical when securing the best value for your clients. Even if an agent mastered GDS, they would still need to log into various portals to get a better idea of the pricing landscape for a property. GDS connectors are not mobile-friendly or Mac-friendly. You would need to use a remote desktop on a Mac or access your GDS system from a PC. This means agents need to carry around laptops if they want the power of GDS on the go. There isn't a built-in knowledgebase or online forum that you can turn to. Users don't have a friendly demo or training they can take. The learning curve is steep; another human will usually need to teach you individually. There aren't convenient search features in GDS, i.e., searching a hotel list (like we have in FastBook). You will generally need to search by Sabre GDS code, hotel name, or destination. There are no convenient filters to determine which rate makes the most sense quickly. Where is this? Jimburan Puri, a Belmond Hotel, Bali Where is this? Casa de Sierra Nevada, a Belmond Hotel, San Miguelle de Allende, Mexico Our Agents Get GDS Access Without the Drawbacks Our agent booking tool, FastBook, pulls Sabre GDS rates, along with all other available rates from wholesalers and other sources. Our interface is clean and intuitive, so there are no difficult commands to learn, and our system is accessible from mobile devices and both Mac and PC. The bottom line is that if you want to harness the full force of GDS, we have the most powerful, easy-to-use, and mobile-friendly tool on the market. Only LuxRally Travel agents have access to our tech, and it's completely free, with no subscriptions or sign-up fees. Everything you need to know about GDS. Last Updated: 01/17/2025

Hotel Cipriani, a Belmond Hotel, Venice, Italy We Have the Best Tech David Eisen, our founder, might be the first programmer to also master the travel agent space. In his third year of being a travel agent, he broke seven figures in commissions. This means he was dealing with a lot of volume and became frustrated with the clunky nature of travel agent tech. When we decided to start our own host agency and do things the way we thought made the most sense for our clients and our small band of agents, we knew building our own systems would be important. David codes everything in our booking portal except some cosmetic front-end CSS and JavaScript. He is a coding prodigy; some people compare him to a younger Elon Musk. He broke Expedia's API integration record when he had a perfect integration completed within two days. Before David, the fastest integration was a team out of Israel that managed a less satisfactory score (Expedia grades their integrations) in two weeks. David is able to turn his thoughts directly into code, which means he doesn't need to communicate down a chain of programmers; he can't just sit down and make it happen. David collapsed all needed functionality into a single, clean system, from bookings and accounting to client information and reminders. Our competitors outsource their code and use old-school systems to power the back ends of their "booking portals," meaning no one is even close to touching us from a tech perspective. If you join us and you've never been an agent before, just know you will be spoiled. If you are already an agent, congratulations; you can access the most powerful travel agent tool on the market for free. No learning GDS, no annoying unmatched commissions reports, no logging into a dozen different systems. David has built the tool this industry has needed for decades, and our roadmap has tons of new features rolling out through 2025. We Have the Best Community Our travel agent community is rare. Everyone has each other's back. Our agents sign contracts binding them to never steal clients from other LuxRally agents. Our chats are going 24/7; our meetings are filled with motivated agents. We have a leaderboard with announcements when someone makes their first booking or lands a large commission. When this happens, the comments and likes are through the roof. We've built our community on the Circle.so platform, so it's accessible from desktop and mobile. Nearly all of our agents are active in our community spaces daily. At our previous host, before we made our own, there was virtually no community. They advertised community, but it was underwhelming. We have also heard this from other agents about their former hosts. The travel agent community might seem welcoming and collaborative, and this is true at our agency. However, it is not the norm. It's not just that our community is active; it's that our community gets it. There are tons of travel agent Facebook groups with a decent level of activity, but they cause agents to spin their wheels and get caught up in scams. The agents in these groups are very stubborn and set in their ways. We see them drag new agents down paths of low-earnings. Agents making $100,000 a year sell their courses and build cult followings. It is a sticky trap that we recommend avoiding. We know that not all of you will take this advice, and we hope you keep your eyes wide open if you begin thinking that how much of a fee you charge is a status symbol. This is a clear sign that you are in an echo chamber of future-resisting agents. Where is this? Mount Nelson, a Belmond Hotel, Cape Town, South Africa Where is this? Hotel das Cataratas, a Belmond Hotel, Iguassu Falls, Brazil We Have the Best Training Our training is comprehensive and efficient. With over 500 lessons, you'll be eons beyond many experienced agents by the time you graduate. While it is comprehensive, it's also succinct. In total, we have twenty hours of video. We have seen courses that advertise 50 hours of video, and yet their agents are clueless upon graduation. Courtney and David Eisen, our founders, put the training together themselves, with an immense amount of thought in each section to bring someone from inexperienced to confident in the most efficient way possible. We learn from our agents to identify any and all things we might have taken for granted and continually update the training to fill in the gaps. Training doesn't end, though, upon graduation. Our agents are continuously mentored. We have hired some of the best talent to help shape our team, from Vern Toland, our VP of Sales, who has run many successful sales teams, to Markus Laahanen, our VP of Concierge Services, who helped open some of the world's most prestigious hotels. The professionals and others help coach our agents to be their best. Top agents are invited to become Lead Agent Mentors and act as a first line of contact should other agents need insights. Long story short, we know we are the best host agency in existence. We don't make empty promises, and we overdeliver. Our tech over-delivers. Our community over-delivers. Our training over-delivers. Whether it's for our clients or our agents, we aim to exceed expectations. We hope to exceed yours after you apply to join our team. The best tech, community, and training; we are the best host agency. Last Updated: 01/17/2025

A (reputable) host travel agency provides the infrastructure for agents to thrive. Building this infrastructure would be difficult and expensive for a single agent. Let's break it down. A (reputable) host travel agency provides the infrastructure for agents to thrive. Building this infrastructure would be difficult and expensive for a single agent. Let's break it down. Apply to Join Our Team ! Where is this? La Samanna, a Belmond Hotel, St. Martin What does a host agency provide to agents? Licensing and credentials: Host Travel Agencies carry the needed licensing and credentials for travel agents to legally sell travel and earn commissions. Selling travel without the correct licensing can have serious legal repercussions. Selling travel without an IATA number, for example, will mean you cannot earn commissions. A host simplifies this process and dramatically reduces start-up costs. Support and Training: The level of support and training varies quite a bit from host to host, so make sure to factor this in when trying to select the best host agency for your goals. The travel industry is complicated, but good training and a supportive community will shorten your learning curve and keep you from making expensive mistakes. Booking Systems: Host agencies also provide their agents with access to booking systems. Most host agencies will simply provide logins to various vendors. However, we have programmed a portal where you can shop nearly all vendors in one place. Industry Connections: The hospitality community can feel intimidating and vast. This is because it is. Your host will either have a good reputation or a poor reputation, but choosing a host agency with a stellar reputation will mean that doors open easily for you (and your clients). Volume: Host agencies aggregate the sales volume of all of their agents, meaning that maintaining minimums to be part of benefits programs like Rosewood Elite is more feasible. An agent attempting this on their own would need to be pushing millions of dollars through each brand. Consortia Benefits and Tools: Travel consortia aggregates the volume of host agencies for additional benefits and perks. A reputable host agency will participate in one of the many travel consortia and offer access to the their benefits and resources. CRM Tools: Most host agencies offer CRM and accounting tools for their agents. Unfortunately, these systems can be slow, hard to use, and spread across multiple portals. Some host agencies still send out unmatched commissions via PDFs (a nightmare). We offer our agents a custom CRM that is directly connected to FastBook, our proprietary booking engine, so that managing customer information, reminders, commissions, accounting, etc., is fast, easy, and oftentimes automated. Marketing: Host agencies may also provide marketing support and materials, i.e., landing pages, business cards, designed assets, etc. Additionally, a host agency's brand will oftentimes be stronger and more credible than a single agent's brand. We provide free, comprehensive, and practical marketing training, landing pages, plus LuxRally designed materials to our agents. Leads: Host agencies will often say they have a leads program, but it is underwhelming; they may have a handful come in per month. Our agency has a serious leads program. It is currently invite-only, so you will need to first prove you can handle clients, but once you're in, you can supplement your income from inbound leads. We are always expanding our leads program to include more sources and opportunities for agents. How it Works Generally, an agent will apply to join a host agency. The host may or may not have an interview process. Some let you participate by simply paying a commission. Some hosts will require you to complete some form of training before accessing your logins and IATA number. When you start booking trips, your host agency will receive commissions from a travel supplier and disburse the payments to you on a pay schedule. Working with a host agency is pretty straightforward and simple. Just keep in mind that if you are paying a host agency a fee or subscription, their business model ensures they make money whether you are successful or not. Commission splits are something else to be aware of. Our starting commission split is 80%/20% (you keep 80%). Most host agencies start at 70%/30%. Beware of 100% commission host agencies. They advertise that you keep 100% of the commission. Most agents assume this means that the agency only makes money on the subscription fees. This is a "dirty little secret" in travel. Host agencies are offered overrides. Overrides are an additional percentage of revenue. For example, an agent with a "100% commission will see a 10% commission on a booking, but the agency is actually getting a 13% commission. We know this because we are a host agency and have overrides. We give our overrides back to our agents in the margin (so they can beat more rates or earn higher commissions) or, with cruise lines, as onboard credit opportunities for clients. This helps our agents be competitive and close more deals. Most host agencies charge subscriptions, commission splits, and pocket overrides. Just be aware. We are the only host agency (as far as we know) that is even talking about this. We keep it clean and transparent with a straightforward override. Where is this? Aman Summer Palace, Beijing, China Where is this? Aman Venice, Italy Our Host Agency's Offer Upon completing our program and filing their independent agent exemption with the State of Florida, we offer our agents all licensing and credentials. Our training is thorough. We have mentorship and a collaborative community. We have the most advanced booking portal on the market. We have extensive industry connections. Our volume is not only strong but also exponentially increasing year after year, so travel suppliers watch us closely. We are partnered with Travel Leaders, one of the most reputable travel consortiums in the world. Our CRM tools shave hours off of administrative tasks when compared to traditional travel agent tools. Our marketing support is bar none; after completing our marketing training, agents can schedule marketing one-on-ones with our marketing team for personalized help, and our leads program is proactively managed and expanded. Our commission split is competitive and straightforward. Beyond all of these benefits, we offer even more. Our in-house concierge is free to our agents on trips when the client is spending more than $1,500 a night on average. We are not aware of another agency that offers in-house concierge support to their agents. We are always building out continued education opportunities. We provide strategic insights each month on what to focus on, i.e., when you should start preparing clients for the ski season. We have events nearly every day where agents can ask questions and build upon their expertise. Because we build all of our tech in-house, we can respond quickly to agent feedback. Lastly, we offer all of this to our agents for free. The only cost our agents have is the $51.50 exemption fee paid directly to the State of Florida each year. What is a host agency? Rosewood Kona Village, Hawaii Leaving Clients Stranded When a client is traveling and calls you in the middle of the night, it's probably for something urgent. You may be tempted to snooze the call, but doing so might be leaving your client stranded. They may have arrived at their hotel, but the front desk can't find their reservation. Should they wait in the lobby for you to wake up? Even worse, let's say their flight was delayed on their way to the Maldives, and now they'll be missing the last seaplane to their hotel. Should they be left to fend for themselves in a foreign country? The point here is that the day will come when your clients need you at an inconvenient time, and you must be there. This may only happen a few times a month to the busiest of agents, but it is important you understand what you're getting into. Being an available source of help, especially during a crisis, will build confidence in your clients to book with you time and time again. Conversely, if you feel it is acceptable not to be there for your clients, you give them a worse customer service experience than a booking site's 1-800 number. At least with a call center someone answers, eventually. This neglect will hurt you in the long run. If you still aren't convinced you're up for this task of being available when needed, chances are that becoming a travel agent is not is not the best career path to go down. Ready to join our team? When Money Calls, Answer Beyond the customer service aspect, being available to clients, even during non-critical times, is essential if you want to land large commissions. Sometimes, it's those middle-of-the-night calls that bring you the five-figure commissions. We live in the modern world, and when someone has the itch to book their vacation, they want immediate gratification. Making your client wait allows them to consider other booking options or change their mind about the trip. The convenience factor applies especially to ultra-luxury travelers, who expect their needs to be catered to promptly. While a client may be willing to wait if they've established a relationship with you, it goes a long way to demonstrate that you're willing and able to service them quickly. Word-of-mouth referrals are the lifeblood of this industry, especially if you want the types of clients who spend seven figures a year on travel. Being available increases the chances of your client talking about you with other luxury travelers. Industry Insight: Most people like to book their trips in the evening after they've decompressed. Most of our top-earning agents stay up late and wake up late. A later schedule also provides better overlap for clients traveling internationally. If you want to be a hobbyist travel agent, making the average amount per year as an agent (which isn't much), this may not apply to you. However, if you want to earn six or seven figures as an agent, this is a fundamental concept to imprint upon yourself. If you plan on being a hobbyist agent, stop reading our content and go to a host agency where you can pay a subscription to remain active. If you want to be held to a high standard, this next section is for you. Where is this? Mount Nelson, a Belmond Hotel, Cape Town, South Africa Where is this? Aman Venice, Italy Excellence Attracts Excellence Our agency is designed for people who want to take this career seriously and maximize their earnings, so we make servicing clients 24/7 as convenient as possible. Some agencies claim to have "Silicon Valley-level tech," but it is an unfortunate facade to trick people into subscriptions. Our founder, David Eisen, programmed everything in-house himself, and the functionality of our systems is not only superior in terms of clean code (no clunky third-party Frankenstein creations) but also in the UI/UX. Since he is one of the highest-earning agents in the world, he knows how to build efficient interfaces to meet a high volume of bookings. Our proprietary and patented systems give our agents a significant advantage. Our systems are the most sophisticated on the market, meaning you can resolve most issues from your phone in minutes. We didn't plan on becoming travel agents. We were tech nerds who ran an exotic car rally (LuxRally) for fun. We stumbled upon this space when making group bookings for our rally. We created Luxrally Travel in 2022 and plan on thoroughly disrupting this space without VC funding or private equity companies telling us what we can and cannot do. We listen intently to our agents' feedback and are able to add new features quickly, sometimes within hours, to our booking tools. Excellence is in our blood, and that is why we attract excellent clients, which consequently means our agents earn far more than the typical travel agent. We don't follow industry "best practices" like charging fees; we plan on upending this industry. If you join us and train with us, you will reshape this entire industry with us. - Travel agent MLMs, how they work, and how to avoid them.
It is important to understand the pitfalls of travel MLMs and the key differences between them and full-service host agencies like us. Legitimate host agencies focus on supporting agents in selling travel—not memberships. Where is this? Aman Summer Palace, Beijing, China "MLMs focus on recruiting you—and anyone who trusts you—into a flawed business model where selling travel is often secondary." Amanoi, Vietnam What is a Travel MLM? Aspiring travel agents sometimes confuse travel MLMs with host agencies, but they are entirely different. A host agency provides the tools and infrastructure to help you sell trips and earn commissions. In contrast, MLMs focus on recruiting you—and anyone who trusts you—into a flawed business model where selling travel is often secondary. Too harsh? Maybe, but shady travel MLMs are a disservice to aspiring agents. Whether you join our host agency or another, we can rest easy knowing you avoided an MLM. Travel MLMs use misleading ads, prey on economically vulnerable individuals, and fail to support serious agents. They rarely admit they're MLMs, instead using terms like "network marketing" or "direct sales." If you see these buzzwords, consider it a red flag. Robert FitzPatrick, an MLM expert, studied 10 publicly traded MLMs, including the now-defunct travel MLM Your Travel Business (YTB), and found that 99% of participants earned less than $10 per week in commissions, even before expenses. Travel MLMs, like other MLMs, have an extremely high failure rate. Many are not required to disclose income statements, but those that do paint a bleak picture. For example, WorldVentures reported that 85.4% of its representatives earned nothing or operated at a loss. Their average annual earnings were $354.31, while first-year costs to join were at least $769.89. Ready to join our team? Our agency might just change your life. Apply Now Where is this? Cap Juluca, a Belmond Hotel, Anguilla. How to Recognize and Avoid Travel MLMs Follow the Money Trail If you're considering a host agency with membership or training fees, ask yourself if they're more focused on recruiting new agents than supporting their current ones. Resist the Recruitment Rhetoric Some hosts prioritize recruiting over training agents to sell travel. If a host agency emphasizes recruiting others during your interview, consider it a red flag. As a new agent, your focus should be on building a client base, starting with your personal network. We strongly recommend you convert travel enthusiasts in your circle into clients, not competing agents. Assess the Host Agency's Support If a host agency pours money into marketing but skimps on agent support, it's likely they're operating a recruitment-driven model. A reputable host agency offers robust training, ongoing education, regular meetings, a resource portal, and 24/7 support. If their promises outweigh their support, it's a warning sign they rely on new agent fees rather than agent sales. Beware of the Travel Agent Pyramid Scheme Some hosts promote a "sub-agent" model, which often indicates an MLM. While sub-agents can make sense in established businesses, new agents don't need them. Sub-agents should function as commission-earning assistants by choice, not as a way for hosts to exploit recruits. If a host encourages sub-agents, especially for beginners, it's unethical and a clear sign to look elsewhere. Travel MLMs Have Minimal Information on Their Website Travel MLM websites often lack concrete details. They provide little to no information about commissions, backend support, Seller of Travel requirements, or E&O insurance. Basic joining information is often gated behind email signups or sizzle calls. Many don't even include profiles of the people running the business, and if support is limited to a nameless email address, that's a major red flag. These sites make big promises without offering real substance. MLMs have shifted their tactics, focusing on lifestyle promises and discounted travel instead of income claims, which the FTC requires them to substantiate. We know this is harsh, but joining a travel MLM isn't worth it—it will break the trust of the people you recruit and probably cause them to lose money. Where is this? La Residencia, a Belmond Hotel, Mallorca, Spain Where is this? Palacio Nazarenas, a Belmond Hotel, Cusco, Peru Our Business Model (anti-MLM) Our business model is the opposite of an MLM. We don't charge agents any fees and take a loss on new recruits, only earning when they start selling. Our competitive 80/20 commission split (versus the typical 70/30) reflects our confidence in our methods, which leads to higher agent revenue. By avoiding fees, we build trust, showing agents we're fully committed to their success. Additionally, we don't want you to recruit other agents. We would rather you turn your travel-obsessed connections into clients, not your competitors. Are host agencies with fees MLMs? Not exactly, but some could be considered "soft MLMs." The key is doing your homework. If your goal is six or seven-figure earnings, an agency like ours is a great fit. However, if you prefer a no-pressure hobby, a host with fees may be better. For instance, we have sales minimums to remain active, while other hosts will let you stick around as long as you pay your subscription. If you are looking to be a hobbyist agent who focuses on Disney and Sandals, we might not be the best fit, but at least don't join an MLM. If you want a strong host agency to stand behind your success (and even take a bet on it), join us. We won't disappoint you. Travel agent MLMs, how they work, and how to avoid them.
