Despite being tucked into the grand shell of the historic 1920s Port of London Authority building, the spa's brand-new, purpose-built space does not hint at its past. Instead, it evokes the city’s ancient Roman history through its décor, mirroring the atrium's curving walls.

Seven years in the making, the hotel and spa are worth the wait. The spa is a boon for hotel guests, but it’s also highly sought after by the bustling workers of the local area, the U.K.’s financial center, since it’s open to non-residents for treatments and day spa visits.

Inspector's Highlights

The Roman-inspired spa spreads over 18,083 square feet, offering luxe relaxation with eight treatment rooms, including a spacious Spa Suite for couples and a special Hammam Suite for private steam services. The spa marks the U.K. debut of German skin-care brand Amala, which inspires treatments like Nature’s Purest Facial, using organic plant-based ingredients to brighten and smooth the skin.

The architecture reflects London’s ancient Roman history, featuring classical columns and clean lines. Colors and materials draw inspiration from the precious minerals mined by the Romans, lending an atmosphere of timeless serenity. Luxurious hammam treatments for men and women are available, including the traditional hammam ritual Escape to Taliouine. Facilities include a sauna, lap pool, vitality pool, and quiet relaxation areas.

Things to Know

Guests as young as 16 are welcome for a limited selection of treatments, provided they are accompanied by an adult. The beautiful silver and stone Hammam Suite can be booked for 60- and 120-minute treatments for individuals or couples. The spa offers enhancements that can be added onto any treatments of 60 minutes or longer.

The Treatments

The spa offers various 180-minute treatments in the couple’s suite, including the MarocMaroc Ultimate Sensory Hammam Journey For Two. This begins with a steam bath, deep black soap scrub and Miel d’Ambre scrub in the dedicated Hammam Suite, concluding with an energizing full-body massage with Onguent d’Argan.

The spa’s partners, British brand ESPA and Dr. Burgener Switzerland, have been carefully selected to create a varied treatment menu. For an all-encompassing experience, book the Salt Stone Restorative Ritual, which includes a foot bath and rub, warm stone massage, and scalp massage. Expectant mothers will enjoy the prenatal treatment that includes back exfoliation, body and scalp massage.

The Facilities

The spa boasts a vitality pool with air and water jets, sauna and steam rooms, a fitness center, and a 24-hour gym. Those seeking a wholly private space can book the Spa Suite, featuring a couple’s treatment room, changing area, and steam shower. Manicures and pedicures, including treatments designed specifically for men, are available at the Finishing Studio. The amenities also include an indoor pool for a refreshing dip.
