History
The first journey was made on 4 October 1982, and the birth of the modern Orient Express can be traced back to 1883 when Georges Nagelmackers founded La Compagnie Internationale des Wagons Lits (CIWL). The company quickly became renowned for its superior service and for providing an exclusive mode of transport for European royalty, business leaders, and celebrities. The CIWL built some of the world's most prestigious sleeping, dining, and lounge cars in order to provide customers with all the comfort they would expect from first-class travel. By 1914 there was an extensive network of routes across Europe, including Paris - Istanbul, Paris - Trieste (Venice), and Paris – Vienna.
